Acupuncture for Addictions Clinic
The Acupuncture for Addictions Clinic provides auricular acupuncture, supportive counseling and crisis support for clients with substance dependencies or substance use issues.
Acupuncture has been used for centuries to relieve pain and treat various illnesses. Acupuncture for the treatment of addiction disorders is a relatively recent development in the history of this ancient art.
Auricular acupuncture treatment involves the gentle placement of five small, sterilized disposable needles into specific sites on each ear while the recipient sits quietly for 40-45 minutes. No electrical stimulation is used. An acupuncture based treatment process has been shown to decrease: cravings for alcohol and drugs, withdrawal symptoms, anxiety, insomnia and agitation.
Goals / services:
- To offer a safe non-judgmental environment for clients who may be reluctant to access more structured treatment programs
- To maintain a client-centred focus in all aspects of treatment
Client must have a primary counselor/therapist that is addiction specific and is actively attending in order to be eligible for acupuncture treatment, as the acupuncture is used as an adjunctive treatment to more formal supports.
