Patients' Lives Made Better
“I was overwhelmed with the care and treatment I received. Not only did Dr. Reznick save my life, Dr. Harris and the staff in Cardiac Intensive Care helped extend it,”
A Gift From the Heart
Aart(Ed) Jansen had a very close call in March 2007. Walking by the MaRS Discovery District close to Toronto General Hospital, he had a heart attack and collapsed. Fortunately, Dr. Richard Reznick, Vice President, Education at UHN was passing by and immediately administered emergency aid and called for an Emergency Response Unit that revived Ed with a defibrillator. Following surgery at TGH. Dr. Louise Harris and her team made sure Ed was well on his way to recovery. He received a cardioverter efibrillator - a small battery powered electrical impulse generator that is implanted in patients who are at risk of sudden cardiac death due to ventricular fibrillation. “I was overwhelmed with the care and treatment I received. Not only did Dr. Reznick save my life, Dr. Harris and the staff in Cardiac Intensive Care helped extend it,” said a grateful Ed who made a special gift to support vital equipment needs for other cardiac patients.
