The Donald K. Johnson Eye Centre, part of the Krembil NeuroscienceCentre and located at Toronto Western Hospital, is the largest ophthalmology centre in Canada. At the Donald K. Johnson Eye Centre, we care for more than 55, 000 outpatients and conduct more than 4,000 surgeries each year. Along with providing exception patient are, our centre is dedicated to ophthalmology education and research.
Recognized leaders in the their fields, our physicians are at the forefront of state-of-the-art ophthalmology and have made extensive advancements in recent years, including the surgical repair of complicated retinal detachment, the repair of macular holes to restore vision and the revolutionary use of photodynamic therapy using special dye and lasers to identify and destroy abnormal eye tissue.

The retina is a transparent, thin layer of light sensitive cells that line the inside back wall of the eye. The retina is very important for good vision.
Referring to the diagram of a camera, the retina is like the film of a camera. If the film of the camera is damaged, there will not be good quality pictures. Similarly, if the retina is damaged, the images received by the brain will be blurred and the vision will not be clear.
