Patients & Visitors

Patients & Visitors Information

"You always had time for me. To a patient with many fears about the future, this meant an enormous amount to me." - UHN Patient

When you arrive at Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto General Hospital or Toronto Western Hospital for your test or appointment, you will see handwashes set up at each of our entrances. We are asking all patients and visitors to wash their hands before entering.

As part of our new normal, we are also asking you to self screen before entering the hospital.

What is self screening?
Basically, we are asking you to answer whether you have any of the following symptoms:

  1. A new cough (not associated with your current illness)
  2. Fever
  3. Shortness of breath (worse than usual)
  4. Severe headache (worse than usual)
  5. Unexplained muscle aches
  6. Unexplained extreme fatigue
  7. Vomiting and/or diarrhea

If you answer YES to one or more of these questions, please leave the hospital and visit your family physician or closest Emergency Department. This applies to both patients and visitors.

Flexible Visiting Guidelines
We have Visiting Guidelines to ensure that we are able to preserve all patients' rights to privacy and confidentiality and to protect patients and their families from hospital acquired infection.

Please visit our Visiting the Hospital homepage for further information.

Please Note: Patients in our Emergency Departments are permitted 1 visitor only.

What if I am a non-resident of Canada?
If you are a non-resident of Canada, refer to UHN's Patient Referral Process. For more information on non-resident billing, please phone (416) 340-4800 x. 6002.

Whether we're looking after one patient or one thousand, our goal remains the same -- to provide the highest quality health care. We care about your health and we want your stay to be as comfortable as possible.
